ENLIGHTENMENT: The Timeless Art of Aladin Antiqueño

Last August 2, 2025, the solo exhibit “Enlightenment” by Dr. Aladin Antiqueño officially opened at the Ayala Museum ArtistSpace, where it runs until August 17, 2025. The exhibition stands as a profound testament to Antiqueño’s lifelong devotion to the arts—blending mastery, innovation, and vision. More than a display, it embodies his philosophy that art is not just to be seen, but to be experienced—as light, as inspiration, and as transformation.

“Enlightenment” reflects Antiqueño’s journey as an artist, a storyteller, and a visionary. It invites audiences to witness how creativity bridges tradition and progress, how memory and innovation coexist, and how art can illuminate both the paths we have walked and those yet to come.

The exhibit unfolds in a Past–Present–Future setup, guiding visitors through the evolution of Antiqueño’s artistry.

In the Past section, Antiqueño displayed some of his early paintings that highlight the foundation of his signature style, Composed Photorealism. Notable works include “Tampo” (46"x90", 1994) and “The Search” (48"x72", 1994), both of which capture the essence of his beginnings as a painter.

The Present section featured new works that reflect his growth and personal journey. Driftwood lamps, designed with natural textures and accented with leaves, were displayed as unique functional art pieces. Each lamp carried a distinct identity, impossible to replicate, while also symbolizing Antiqueño’s roots in carpentry. Alongside these were new photorealism paintings such as “Timeless Connection” (36"x29", 2025) and “Rocket Car” (25"x25", 2025). The highlight of this section was a life-sized self-portrait sculpture titled “The Torch Bearer”, which drew admiration from visitors.

The Future section explored the merging of technology and art. Sensor-based lamps and dual-purpose designs with built-in chargers were showcased, along with glass coffee tables that combined his painting and woodworking elements. A video installation presented his older works in animated form, symbolizing how Antiqueño envisions integrating technology into his art in the years to come.

Through “Enlightenment”, Dr. Aladin Antiqueño offers not only a retrospective of his journey but also a vision of what lies ahead. His works remind us that art is a living force—rooted in tradition, enriched by the present, and illuminated by the possibilities of the future.
